Poundstock Parish Council Elections
The next Poundstock Parish Council elections will be held in May 2025.
Parish Councillors serve a four-year term, with the last elections taking place in May 2021.
How to Become a Parish Councillor
If you are interested in serving your community, you can stand as a candidate in the local elections. You do not need to be affiliated with a political party—you can stand as an Independent candidate or without any description next to your name. If you do wish to represent a political party, you will need to go through their selection process before being nominated. More information and support for Independent candidates can be found here: https://www.local.gov.uk/be-councillor/contact-us.
Eligibility Criteria
To stand for election, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a registered voter in the area or have lived, worked, or owned property within three miles of the parish for at least 12 months before nomination
- Be a British or Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any EU member state
You are not eligible to stand if you:
- Are employed by the council you wish to represent (you may work for a different local authority as long as you are not in a politically restricted role)
- Are subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order
- Have received a prison sentence of three months or more (including suspended sentences) within the five years before election day
- Have been convicted of a corrupt or illegal practice by an election court
- Are subject to notification requirements or an order related to a sexual offence
